December/ South Trip

Ahhhhh! I can't believe we are in December. Time is flying. 4 months complete!!
My cousin here had her birthday 3 sundays ago. This birthday was very important because it is her 15th. (It's like our version of sweet 16). The family ate together with us and sang happy birthday.
It seems that music class here has 2 aspects. 1) A little bit of material, like this time was artists of the rock, jazz, and barroc period. 2) The other is like a "jam session" where there are one or two people playing guitar, one on the drum set, and the others sing songs from a book.
In the start the the semana, there was a lot of wind. (2 weeks ago) We lost lights for a few seconds. The nights are chilly and the days, hot. But it isn't humid! =]
On Tuesday I went to a Rotary Meeting. My first time... finally!! It was like the meeting of my club in the US. They also sang a son. Each of the two students and I spoke of our experiences and we all ate dinner. It finished very late and we arrived at the house at 12am, midnight.
On wednesday, we had a meeting about going to Quirhue in January. It is a missions trip and I am very excited to go. It was greatly affect by the earthquake and there, we are going to help and speak to the people.
Additionally, on Wednesday, I took the Lenguaje final. It was interesting...haha. It was a multiple choice test. Here, I always do better with tests that have essays because I can write and defend my thesis. But, I recieved an 82% (about). I answered 17 correct of 40, but becuase I don't understand everything yet, it was multiplied by 2 and then I got 34 correct. Thanks professor =]
ALl day Thursday we did nothing. All the classes with the exception of math had finished. We played cards, watched movies and talked.
On friday (03 of December) I got an 84% on my math final with only 4 wrong. That finsihed this year in school for me. Summmerrrrrr =]

English: 99% (becuase of a Scarlett Letter quiz =P)

On Saturday, the 4th of December, I saw Harry Potter. Finally! =] It was completly Spanish but I understood almost everything. I didn't like the absence of some details in parts but they stopped the movie in a good spot. Overall, I really liked it.
Sunday: We left for the South at 6:30am from the airport. We arrived later and took a bus to a view point of Punta Arenas. The wind there goes from the Pacific to the Atlantic and the average of the wind speed is 30-50 mph. Because of the wind, we had a sketchy landing on the plane but all went well. We visited a famous statue of Magellans. On SUndays, they have a flag parade. We saw the last part. The same day we went to see the penguins. I don't know what it is, maybe it's how they walk but they are special =] That night we explored Punta Arenas on foot.
It was really cold!!! every day (and it's summer here)
Monday:
Breakfast this day was very good. It was like breakfast in the US with scambled eggs and bacon. It was delicious. First stop was Fuerte Bulnes and we also saw where the Spanish landed. We drove to Puerto Natales. During this, at one point, we were 3 km from Argentina. A friend and I wanted to visit for one moment to put a foot in Argentina but no. We continued to Puerto Natales and the Fijord of Last Hope.
Tuesday:
We went to "La Cueva del Milodon." Many many years ago there was an animal that was a mix of horse and bear, the Milodon. And this the place where it lived. We then passed through more scenery till Torres del Paine. The hotel was awesome as was the view. We had a lovely hotel and each had a double sized bed for ourselves.
Wednesday:
First, we left for a hike called Mirador Condor. We climbed walking and in some parts it was very steep. But we arrived to an incredible view with a LOT of wind. After lunch, we went to Grey Lake to go on a ship to see Glacier Grey. It was very blue. We crossed a brigde on the way to the boat that had a capacity of only 6 people at once. How scary haha more coldness...
Thursday:
I got up to see the mountians with fresh snow. How prettyyy! We rode horseback in 3 groups of 11. When it was flat, we ran super fast! THe fastest the horse could go. It was so much fun! My horse named Pajarito (aka Little bird) was very good. We returned to Puerto Natales in the afternoon. It was light untill 11 pm! Very late.
Friday:
We left for a trip on a boat for the day. THe boat left from Puerto Natales and we went to see diffent places and things. This included waterfalls, glaciers, condors (type of bird), sea lions,and beautiful mountains. We had a good time. After we returned to the airport for our flight at 11:30pm and we arrived in Santiago at 2:30am Saturday.
This trip was absolutly incredible and awesome. I was able to get to know the exchange students better and I also saw more of the world. =D
Today, Sunday, we went to a very special District Rotary meeting. The counselors obtained photos of us and our family in the home place and made posters. We also recieved letters from our family. It was very special and this is with the theme of the month of the family.
I have learned a lot here but one big thing for me is that I have gained a lot more confidence in myself. I have learned things about respect. And in respect to respect (haha) that you don't need to do everything that others are doing to be accepted and have friends. Be yourself, adapt to the culture but always have the same or better values.

Ahhhhh! No puedo creer que estamos en Diciembre. El tiempo está voliendo. =]

Ahhhhh! I can't believe we are in December. Time is flying. 4 months complete!!
Mi prima acá tuve su cumpleaños el domingo. Este cumpleaños es muy importante porque es su quinceañera. La familia comó juntos y cantó Feliz Cumpleaños.
Parece que la clase de musica acá tiened dos aspectos. 1) Un poquito de material, como esta vez fue artistas del rock, jazz, y barroco. 2) El otro es como un "jam session" dónde hay una o dos personas jugando guitarra, un en batería, y los otros cantan canciones que son en un libro.
En el principio de la semana había mucho viento. Perdimos las luces por pocos segundos. Las noches son fresco y las días calor. Pero no es húmido! =]
El martes fui a un reúnion de Rotary. Mi primera vez...por fín!! Fue como el reúnion de los EEUU en mi club. Tambien, ellos cantan una canción. Cada de los dos estudiantes y yo hablamos un poquito de las experiencias y comimos una cena. Terminó muy tarde y llegue a la casa a las doce de la noche.
El miercoles tuvimos un reúnion para ir a Quirehue en enero. Es un viaje de los misiones y estoy muy emocionante a ir. Fue muy afectado por el terremoto y allá vamos a ayudar y hablar con la gente.
Ádemas el miercoles tomé el global de lenguaje. Fue interestante...haha Fue una examen de elección múltiple. Siempre estoy mejor con examenes con ensayos porque puedo escribir y defender mi tesis. Pero, saque un 5.9. Contesté 17 corecto pero porque no entiendo todo todavía no, fue multiplicado por 2 y entonces saque un 34. Gracias profe =]
Todo el día jueves hicimos nada. Todos las clases con la excepción de matematicas habían terminado. Jugamos cartas, vemos películas, y hablamos.
El viernes (03 de Deciembre) saque un 6.0 en mi global de matmatica con solamente 4 incorrecto. Eso terminó es año del colegio para mí. Veranoooooo =]

El Sabado, el 4 del Deciembre, vi Harry Potter. Por fín! =] Fue totalmente en español pero entendí casí todo. No me gusta la falta de detales en algunos partes pero se paró la película en una buena posición.
Domingo:
Salimos para Patagonia a las 6:30 de la mañana del aeropuerto. Llegamos luego y tomamos un bus a una punta de vista en Punta Arenas. El viento allá va desde el Pacifico al Atlantico y el promedio del viento es entre 60-80km/hora. Porque del viento, el avión cuando llegamos nos hace un poquito miedo pero todo fue bien. Visitamos una estatua famosa que es de Magellans. Los domingos, se tiene un defile de la bandera. Vimos la última parte. Lo mismo día fuimos a ver los pingüinos. No sé que es, quizas es cómo ellos caminan pero son especial =] Esa noche, caminamos en Punta Arenas para explorar.
HACÍA MUCHO FRIÓ!!!! todos los días

Desayuno este día fue muy bueno. Quizas porque fue como desayuno en los EEUU. Con huevos revueltos y tocino, fue delicioso. Primer parada fue Fuerte Bulnes y tambien vimos dónde los españoles vinieron. Manajamos a Puerto Natales. Durante este paseo, en un punto, fuimos 3km de Argentina. Una amiga y yo queríamos que visitamos por un momento para poner un pie en Argentina, pero no. Siguemos a Puerto Natales y el Fijord de La Ultima Esperanza.
Martes:
Fuimos a "La Cueva del Milodon." Muchos muchos años a trás había un animal que fue un mezcla de cabello y oso, el Milodon. Y este el lugar donde vivía. Pasamos por más tierra a Torres del Paine. El hotel fue bacán! y tuvimos una cama para dos por cada persona. Muy cómodo. Tambien la vista del ventana fue increible!
Miercoles:
Primer, salimos para un paseo que se llama Mirador Condor. Subimos caminando y en algunos partes fueron muy incumbradsa. Pero llegamos a una vista increible con mucho mucho mucho mucho viento. Despues del almuerzo, fuimos a lago grey para ir en un barco a ver glaciar Grey. Estaba muy azul. Cruzamos un puente colgado que tenía la capacidad de 6 personas. Que miedo jaja Más frío...
Jueves:
Levanté a ver las montañas con nieve fresca. Qué lindaaaas! Andamos por cabello en 3 grupos de 11. Cuando fue plano, corremos tan rápido! Lo más rápido que podría ir. Estaba muy divertido! Mi cabello se llama Pajarito y estuvo muy bueno. Volvemos a Punto Natales para la tarde. Había luz hasta 11 de la noche! Muy tarde.

Salimos para un paseo en barco para el día. El barco salió desde Puerto Natales y fuimos a ver diferente cosas y lugares. Estos incluyen caídas de agua, glaciares, condores, lobos marinos, y montañas bonitas. Tuvimos un buen tiempo. Despues, volvemos al aeropuerto para nuestro vuelo a las 11:30 y llegamos en Santiago a las 2:30 de la mañana de sabado.
Este viaje fue absolutamente bacán y increíble. Podría conocer los intercambistos más y tambien vi más del mundo. =D
Hoy, domingo, tuvimos un reúnion de Rotary muy especial. Los consejeros obtuvieron fotos de la familia del su país y hicieron carteles. Tambien recivimos cartas de nuestro familia. Fue muy especial y es con el tema del mes de la familia.
He apredido de mucho acá pero una cosa muy grande para mí es que yo he ganado mucho más confianza en mí. He apredido de respecto. Y con respecto a respecto (jaja) que no necestias a hacer todo que otros hacen para estar aceptado y tener amigos. Seas tú mismo y adaptar a otra cultura pero siempre tener lo mísmo valores.

He empezado tenís y me lo encanta mucho! Es dos veces cada semana y despues de solamente 3 clases, soy mucho mejor que antes. Mi "frase" es "más largo". Eso, usualmente, es que necesito hacer con mi golpe.
I have started tennis and I love it a lot! It is two times a week and after only 3 classes, I am much better than before. My "moto" is "longer/more length". That, usually, is what I need to improve on my hit.
El jueves (el 18 de Noviembre), en el regreso a la casa por bus, hubo un chico que tiene 8 años aproximademente. Él dijo que tiene Club Penguin y dije que mi hermano menor tambien tiene un. Por su puesto, la proxima pregunta fue, "De dónde eres?" y yo dije, "EEUU". Entonces él dijo, "Facebook (con una poquita diferente pronunción), Facebook. Messanger, Messanger. Ves? Íngles es facíl" jajaja Hizo mi día.
On Thursday (the 18th of November), in the return to the house by bus, there was a boy aboyt 8 years old. He said that he has Club Penguin and I said that my little brother also has one. Of course, the next question was, "Where are you from?" and I replied, "US". Then he said, "Facebook (with a slightly different pronunciation), Facebook. Messanger, Messanger. You see? English is easy" hahaha It made my day.
El proximo día no fue tan cómico. El perro, Rambo, se murió. Muy triste. Te amamos Rambo!
Then next day wasn't so funny. The dog, Rambo, died. Very sad. We love you Rambo!
Lo mismo día, reciví correo de mi tía y tuvo lápices con mi nombre. =] Este fue muy bien tiempo, porque el día siguente, nos cambiamos casas. Ahora, estoy con lo mismo familia pero estamos en otra casa. Este es mucho más cerca del micro y escuela. Esta semana pasada caminaba a escuela todos los días. Toma 20 minutos, si camino rápido. Pues, todo el sabado cambiamos cosas de una casa a la otra. Mi primera experiencia mudiendo. Parece que hay tres partes de poniendo cosas en cajas para moder. 1) Todo, muy organizado. 2) Todo, no organizado. 3) Mucho a la basura, un poco en cajas, no organizado. jaja El domingo, entonces, fue un día para descansar.
The same day, I recieved mail from my aunt that had pencils with my name on them. =] This was good timing since the following day, we moved. Now, I am with the same family be we are in another house. It is a lot closer to the "micro" (bus system) and school. This past week I walked to school every day. It takes 20 minutes, if I walk fast. Well, all Saturday we moved things from one house to the other. My first moving experince. It seems there are three stages of putting things into boxes to move. 1) Everything, very organized. 2) Everything, disorganized. 3) A lot to the trash, a little in boxes, disorganized. haha Sunday, then, was a day to rest.
El lunes, tuvimos una prueba en educación física de corriendo y otras cosas. Para la parte de corriendo, corrimos de un lado a la gimnasia a la otra. No tan difícil, claro? Pues, es difícil cuando cada vez necesita a ser más y más rápido...por 7 minutos. Casi me morí jaja Pero saque un 7. =]
On Monday, I had a fittness test in gym of running and other things. For the running part, we ran from one side of the gym to the other. No so hard, right? Well its difficult when each time needs to be faster and faster...for 7 minutes. I almost died haha But, I got a 100.
En la clase de íngles, estamos viendo "Invictus". Es una película buenísimo! Debría verla si todavia no la ha visto.
In English class, we are watching "Invictus." It is a great movie! You should watch it if you haven't already seen it.
El viernes fue el ceremonio de graduación de la Maka. Fue muy lindo. Recivieron sus diplomas desde la directora y una cruza desde el profe jefe. Una banda pequeña del septimo y octavo básico tocó "Don't stop beliving". Tambien, hubo una presentación de fotos y videos. Terminó con el profe jefe leyendo la lista de la clase por el último vez y cuando el nombre de cada persona fue llamado, ellos ----blew out thier candle----. Muy especial. Felicidades clase de 2010 de San Nicolas. Uds. lo hicieron. =D
Friday was the graduation ceremony for Maka. It was very nice. They recieved thier diplomas from the director and a cross from the head (homeroom) teacher. A small band of 7th and 8th graders played "Don't Stop Beliving". Additionally, there was a photo (and video) presentation. It finished with the head teacher reading the class list of names for the last time, and when the name of each person was called, they stood up and blew out thier candle. Very special. Congratulations San Nicolas Class of 2010. You did it! =D

Finalmente, fui pensando de una cosa despues de hablando con una amiga. Ahora, parece muy raro para pensar de volviendo a los EEUU y vivir en una ambiental íngles. Estoy expectando a oír español. (No es difícil o raro para hablar en íngles para una conversación, pero vivir en íngles parece un poquito raro.) Comó cambia.
Finally, I was thinging of something after speaking with a friend. Now, it seems very wierd to thing of returning to the US and living in an English environment. I am expecting to hear Spanish. (It is not hard or wierd to have an English conversation, but living in English does seem a little wierd.) How it changes.
I have started tennis and I love it a lot! It is two times a week and after only 3 classes, I am much better than before. My "moto" is "longer/more length". That, usually, is what I need to improve on my hit.
El jueves (el 18 de Noviembre), en el regreso a la casa por bus, hubo un chico que tiene 8 años aproximademente. Él dijo que tiene Club Penguin y dije que mi hermano menor tambien tiene un. Por su puesto, la proxima pregunta fue, "De dónde eres?" y yo dije, "EEUU". Entonces él dijo, "Facebook (con una poquita diferente pronunción), Facebook. Messanger, Messanger. Ves? Íngles es facíl" jajaja Hizo mi día.
On Thursday (the 18th of November), in the return to the house by bus, there was a boy aboyt 8 years old. He said that he has Club Penguin and I said that my little brother also has one. Of course, the next question was, "Where are you from?" and I replied, "US". Then he said, "Facebook (with a slightly different pronunciation), Facebook. Messanger, Messanger. You see? English is easy" hahaha It made my day.
El proximo día no fue tan cómico. El perro, Rambo, se murió. Muy triste. Te amamos Rambo!
Then next day wasn't so funny. The dog, Rambo, died. Very sad. We love you Rambo!
Lo mismo día, reciví correo de mi tía y tuvo lápices con mi nombre. =] Este fue muy bien tiempo, porque el día siguente, nos cambiamos casas. Ahora, estoy con lo mismo familia pero estamos en otra casa. Este es mucho más cerca del micro y escuela. Esta semana pasada caminaba a escuela todos los días. Toma 20 minutos, si camino rápido. Pues, todo el sabado cambiamos cosas de una casa a la otra. Mi primera experiencia mudiendo. Parece que hay tres partes de poniendo cosas en cajas para moder. 1) Todo, muy organizado. 2) Todo, no organizado. 3) Mucho a la basura, un poco en cajas, no organizado. jaja El domingo, entonces, fue un día para descansar.
The same day, I recieved mail from my aunt that had pencils with my name on them. =] This was good timing since the following day, we moved. Now, I am with the same family be we are in another house. It is a lot closer to the "micro" (bus system) and school. This past week I walked to school every day. It takes 20 minutes, if I walk fast. Well, all Saturday we moved things from one house to the other. My first moving experince. It seems there are three stages of putting things into boxes to move. 1) Everything, very organized. 2) Everything, disorganized. 3) A lot to the trash, a little in boxes, disorganized. haha Sunday, then, was a day to rest.
El lunes, tuvimos una prueba en educación física de corriendo y otras cosas. Para la parte de corriendo, corrimos de un lado a la gimnasia a la otra. No tan difícil, claro? Pues, es difícil cuando cada vez necesita a ser más y más rápido...por 7 minutos. Casi me morí jaja Pero saque un 7. =]

-Hay algunos días cuándo está nublado y no puede ver las montañas. Es raro porque yo sé que son allá pero mira como no hay.
-Alguna cosa que es confundiendo: AC= Antes Cristo pero en ingles, AC = after (depues) Chirst. Entonces DC= despues de Cristo. En ingles, BC = before (antes) Christ.
-There are some days when it is cloudy and you can't see the mountains. It's wierd because I know that they are there but it definately looks like they aren't.
-Something that is confusion: AC= Antes Cristo (before Christ) but in english, AC= after Christ). Then DC = Despues (After) Christ. In english,BC = before Christ.
-En este momento, pienso que va a ser raro para tener Navidad sin tiempo frío, teniendo frío. Muy diferent.
- Hay un programa de los EEUU que se llama Numb3rs que me gusta y es en español. La mayor parte de los programas que no son novelas, Disney, o documentales son en ingles con subtitulos de español.

El viaje a Talca

El viernes, el 6 de Noviembre, no fui a escuela porque el bus salió de Santiago a las 12:30 pm. Reuní con un otro estudiante del intercambio de Nueva Zealandia y su hermano. Con suerte tuvimos lo primer tres sillas y ellos me ayudaron a entender algunas palabras y frases. Tuvimos mucho divertido con el "asistente" del bus, haciendo trucos con las manos. Esa noche, reunimos con los ocho otros estudiantes en la casa del Rotary Club de Talca. (Trate decir "ocho otros" rapido).
On Friday, the 6th of November, I didn't go to school because the bus left Santiago at 12:30 pm. I met up with another exchange student from New Zealand and his host brother. With luck, we had the first three seats and they helped me to understand some words and phrases. We had a lot of fun with the bus "assistant", doing tricks with the hands. That night, we got together with 8 other students in a house owned by the Talca Rotary Club.
El próximo día empiezó a las 7 con desayuno. A las 8:30, fuimos listos con cabellos y todo. El primer parte fue muy bueno. Y entonces llegamos a la segunda parte. Cuando ellos dicen, montar cabellos en las montanas este es en verdad. Si miré a mi izquierda, había nada y los paseos estaban con piedra sueltas. Qué miedo!! Palabras no pueden describir mis pensamientos en eso momento. Fue LOCO. Pero llegamos, por fin y nunca demensiado pronto, a la cima dónde estaba un meseta con una vista increible y maravilloso! Comemos almuerzo allá. Nos tomó cuatro horas a subir y cuatro a bajar. Ocho horas en cabello y doce horas en total. Me dolí la espalda los días siguentes! Pero valió la pena. =D
The next day started at 7 with breakfast. At 8:30, we were ready with horses and all. The first part went very well. And then we arrived at the second part. When they say, ride horses in the mountains, this is the truth. If I looked to my left, there was nothing and the pathes were with loose rocks. Scaryy! Words cannot describe my thoughts in that moment. It was CRAZY. But we arrived, finally and not at all too soon, to the top where there was a plateau with an incredible and marvalous view. We ate lunch there. It took us 4 hours to climb up and 4 hours to get back down. Eight hours on horseback and 12 hours in total. My back hurt the following days! But it was worth the pain. =D
Domingo fue el último día con tiempo que estaba el opuesto de sabado. Nos levantamos a ver lluvia afuera. No montando cabellos eso día! Un de los estudiantes encontró una araña grande con mucho pelo!
Que loco! Y saque una foto rápido con la araña. (No tiene veneno)
Despues, el tiempo cambió de lluvia a nieve! Muy linda y probablemente la única nieve que voy a ver calliendo o estar en, en el tiempo que estaré aquí.
Sunday was the last day with weather that was the opposite of Saturday. We got up to see rain outside. No riding horses that day! One of the students found a huge, hairy spider! How crazy! I took one quick photo with the spider. (It isn't poisonous) After, the weather changed from rain to snow! Very pretty and probably the only snow that I am going to see falling or be in, in the time that I will be here.
La regresa a Santiago el domingo fue a las ocho y media con un bus con dos pisos. Fui en el segundo piso. El bus fue un tipo que se llama semicama. Estaba muy cómodo. Pienso que mucho más que el avión que vine acá en. Cada ida y vuelta fue 3 1/2 horas. Llegue a la casa muy tarde y no fui a escuela el próximo día. =] Soy floja jaja. Solamente quería a descansar.
The return to Santiago on Sunday was at 8:30pm with a bus with two floors. I was on the second floor. It was a type of bus called semicama (half bed). It was very comfortable. I think more than the plane I came here in. Each trip (to and from) was 3 1/2 hours. I arrived at the house quite late and didn't go to school the next day. =] I'm lazy haha. I only wanted to rest.

Esta semana pasada fue la semana de íngles dónde hubo diferente actividades en íngles. Martes fue una competencia de poemas, miercoles: Spelling Bee, jueves: Public Speaking, y viernes: Puppet Shows. Martes, miercoles, y jueves fui una jueza con dos otros profesores. Durante el spelling bee, fue muy difícil a discernir entre el "g" y el "d". Sin embargo, fue muy divertido y los estudiantes hicieron muy bien.
This past week was English week where there were different activities in English. Tuesday was a poetry competion, Wednesday: Spelling Bee, Thursday: public speaking, and Friday: Puppet Shows.Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I was a judge with two other teachers. (I missed more class =]) During the spelling bee, it was very difficult to distiguish between the "g" and the "d. Anyway, it was very fun and the students did very well.

Necesité la energía para jugar fútbol con las mujeres de mi escuela en la copa mundial del fútbol entre las escuelas de mi "distrito" que son "hermanos". (San Nicolas...mi escuela, San Felipe, y San Esteban) Ganamos seguno lugar. No tan mál porque no practicamos nada.
Like I have said, being tired comes in waves. On Thursday, I went to be at 7! Well, I felt much better in the morning. I needed energy to play soccer with the other girls in my school in the copa mundial del fútbol between the schools in my "district" that are "brothers" so to say. (San Nicolas...my school, San Felipe, and San Esteban) We got second place. Not so bad because we didn't practice at all.
He escrito mi nombre en un programa para tenís que empezaré este semana. Va a estar para 2 días cada semana por una hora. No puedo esperar a ver mi progreso en un mes!
Hablando de progreso, anoche me di cuenta de cuánto puedo entender ahora. Es mucho más que antes y es bacán! Y no es solamente la idioma, pero tambien de yo mismo. Un viaje maravilloso!
I have signed up for tennis lessons that I will start this week. It will be 2 days a week for one hour. I can't wait to see my progress in one month!
Speaking of progress, last night I realized how much I can understand now. It is a lot more than before and it's awesome! And it is not only the language, but also myself. A wonderful trip!
