Hola a todo!Hey all!

Escuela está yendo muy bien. Terminé sacando notas acá, así que ahora voy a escuela para ir a escuela...Si obtengo todo las firmas y papeles organizados entonces voy a graduar =] Fútbol y tenís van bien. Cuando los chicos tiene un partido, juego basquetbol con los niños, que es muy divertido...y no soy mucho mejor que ellos jaja. Tengo menos que 3 semanas en Chile, que es super emocionante. No puedo esperar a regresar pero voy a extrañar mucho hablando español todos los días y mis amigos y familia acá. Esté preparado en mi casa, vas a estar aprendiendo español jaja =] Fotos y enlaces de fotos abajo. Los ultimos dos enlaces tiene nuevos fotos!

A quick update =] School is going extremely well. I finished getting all my grades here, so now I go to school, to go to school... As long as I get all the signatures and papers organized, I graduated! =D Soccer and tennis are both going well. When the guys have a game, I play basketball with the little kids, which is a lot of fun...and I'm not all that much better than them haha. I have less than 3 weeks left, which is super exciting. I can't wait to come home but will also miss speaking spanish everyday and my friends and family here. So be prepared at home, you will be learning spanish haha =] Photo and photo links below, the last two have new photos!

Escuelaaaaa/ Schooooool

El 5 de Marzo, jueves, fue mi primer día del colegio. Caminé a escuela y entré en mi uniforme. Estamos en lo mismo sala del año pasado en la esquina del tercer piso. Tuvimos una reunión con los padres para las primeras horas sobre metas y el futuro. Mis padres acá no podrían venir. Entonces, fui con los otros “orphans” y eso fue nuestro grupo. Después, comimos desayuno arriba en la cafetería. Con los bebidos y comidas que quedaron, sacamos y trajimos a nuestra sala para luego.
March 5th, Thursday, was my first day of school. I walked to school and entered in my uniform. We are in the same room as last year on the third floor in the corner. We had a meeting with the parents for the first hours about goals and the future. My parents here couldn’t come. So, I went with the other “orphans” and that was our group. After, we ate breakfast upstairs in the cafeteria. With the drinks and food that was left, we took and brought to our classroom for later.



Tenemos mucho nuevos profesores. Tenemos pocos cosas a elegir por clases en comparasen al colegio en los EEUU. Elegí biología, química, arte, y debate. Pero solo tres personas eligieron debate y por eso, estoy en una clase de actualidad sobre noticias de hoy. Los primeros dos días salimos a las 1. El viernes, a celebrar el fin de la semana corta, la clase tuvo un asado en uno de las casas y fue mue divertido.
We have a lot of new teachers. We have few choices for classes in comparison to the US. I chose bio, chem, art, and debate. But only three persons chose debate and as a result, I am in a class abut today’s news. The first two days we left at 1. On Friday, to celebrate the end of the short we, the class had a barbeque at one the houses and it was fun.

Cada 2 horas (aproximadamente) tenemos recreo para 15 minutos. Cada clase es “una hora”, pues un poco menos.
Every 2 hours (about) we have recess for 15 minutes. Each clase is “one hour”, well a little less.
Almuerzo empieza a las 1:20 y va hasta 2:05. Entramos a las 8:10 y el día termina a las 4:30 todos los días menos viernes que termina a las 1:20.
Lunch starts at 1:20 and goes until 2:05. We enter at 8:10 and the day ends at 4:30 every day minus Friday, where it ends at 1:20.
PSU es el gran prueba como la SAT o ACT pero es obligatorio y para lenguaje y mat, tenemos tiempo especialmente para preparar.
PSU is the huge test like the SAT or ACT but is manditory and for Lenguaje (LA in spanish) and math, we have time especially to prepare.

En biología hemos extraído ADN del plátano y también calentando vidrío…qué divertido! En historia trabajamos en una línea del tiempo. En química, decoramos el mural para ciencias. En la clase de ingles, las cosas que leen y trabaja en son sobre salud mental y problemas adolecentes. Es una idea buena para combinarlos.
In bio, we have extracted DNA from a banana and also molded glass…what fun! In history, we worked on a time line. In chem, we decorated a wall for the sciences. In English, the things that they reed and work in are over mental health and adolescent issues. It is a good idea to combine learning English and those lessons.




Ayudo con tres otros estudiantes en el nuevo club de ciencias para los niños del sexto y séptimo básico. El 19 de marzo, viajamos a la universidad de Chile a ver los animales. Era muy divertido.




Fuera del colegio, hago tenis dos veces cada semana. Tengo un nuevo profe pero todo parece bien y estamos trabajando en mi técnica del golpe, como yo tengo la raqueta en mi mano. Veo mucho cambio y estoy mejorando ya. Además, los sábados, estoy en Scouts desde 10:30 hasta 1. Y, estoy yendo a misa cada semana ahora. =D
I help with three other students in the new science club for kids from 6th and 7th grade. On March 19th, we traveled to the University of Chile to see the animals. It was fun.

Outside of school, I practice tennis two times a week. I have a new coach but all seems well and we are working technically on my hits, like how I hold the racket in my hand. I see a lot of change and I am getting better. Additionally, on Saturdays, I am in Scouts from 10:30 until 1. And, I am going to mass each week now. =D

El 13 de Marzo era el cumpleaños de la bisabuela de la familia. Fuimos, Carlos, Maka y yo, a un almuerzo para ella. Tiene 93 años y está en este momento en buen salud, sin problemas de oyendo o memoria. =D
On March 13th, it was the birthday of the great grandma of the family. We went, Carlos, Maka and I, to a lunch for her. She is 93 years old and is, in this moment, in good health, without problems of hearing or memory. =D

Martes del semana pasado tenía un día difícil pero fue bueno que la miss de inglés estuvo allá a oírme. Esa noche tuve una reunión de Rotary que no llegué a la casa hasta 1 am! Fui a escuela tarde el próxima día con ropa, comida, y un saco de dormir porque mi curso esa día a las dos salió para un retiro. Llegamos a una casa grande y lugar precioso. Llenado de actividades, muchas de religión, era muy buena. Igual una noche, lloré para mi casa, todo que ha pasado, que extraño mi familia, que no quiero ir (100 días quedó ese día) y no sé de todo. Gracias a Díos que tenía nuestro jefe de curso quién me escuchó y me ayudó mucho. También mi curso me apoyó mucho y tengo mucho suerte que ellos son tan cariñosos. =]
Tuesday of last week I had a difficult day but it was good that the English teacher was there to hear me out. That night I had a Rotary meeting and I didn’t get back to the house until 1 am! I went to school late the next day with clothes, food and a sleeping bag because the seniors (my class) left at 2 that day for a retreat. We arrived to a huge house and a precious location. Filled with activities, many religious, it was very good. All the same, that night, I cried for my house, all that had happened, that I missed my family, that I didn’t want to go (I had 100 days left that day) and I don’t know what, everything. Thanks to God, I had our head teacher who listened to me and helped me a lot. Also, my class supported me and I have such luck that they are so caring. =]






Este viernes tuvimos un día muy bueno. En mat, terminé mi trabajo y leí. En religión, tuvimos una conversación bacán. No quería que la clase termine. Este año, toca un profesor que podemos preguntar de todo y él explica mucho.

This Friday we had a great day. In math, I finished my work and read. In religion, we had an awesome conversation. I didn’t want the class to end. This year, we have a teacher that we can ask everything and he explains super well.

1st/2nd of July

Acá estamos casi en el fin del febrero. Mi verano ésta terminando y escuela empieza el 3 de marzo. Qué difícil mi vida =P
Here we are almost in the end of February. My summer is finishing and school starts the third of march. What a hard life =P

Esta mes estoy difrutando el verano con la piscina y los primos que están aquí. Tenemos mucho divertido y jugamos volibol y todo. Estamos teniendo un gran tiempo. =D En el principio del mes comimos sushi con amigos pero un adviso, toma mucho tiempo para hacer el sushi, especialmente cuando no somos profesionales jaja. Igual, el sushi fue delicioso!
This month I am enjoying the summer with the pool and cousins that are here. We have a lot of fun and played volleyball and all. We are having a great time. =D In the start of the moth we ate sushi with friends but a heads up, it takes a lot of time to make sushi, especially when we aren't profesionals haha. THe same, the sushi was delicious!

En la tema de la fecha de mi regreso: Voy a salir Chile en la noche del 1 de Julio y estaré en PA el 2 de Julio!!!
On the topic of my return: I will leave Chile the 1 of July and be in PA the 2 of July!! =D

Junté con una amiga del intercambio y con éxito, navigamos el metro y el micro. Tuve que ir desde el norte de Santiago al opuesto lado en el sur a San Bernardo. Ahora estoy comoda usando el metro. Cuando estuvimos en la piscina, estuvimos hablando y yo pregunté "How many years does he have?" que es la pregunta, Cuantos años tiene? literalmente en english. jaja español está en mi cabeza...en ingles... Fuimos a ver "Una Noche Encanto" y fue muy bueno.
I got together with an exchange friend and with success, we navigated the metro (subway) and the micro (bus system). I had to go from the North of Santiago to the other side of in the south to San Bernardo. NOw I am comfortable using the metro. When we were in the pool, we were talking and I asked "How many years does he have?" that is the question for How many years old? (Cuantos años tiene) literally in English. jaja Spanish is in my head...in English...WE then went to see "Burlesque" and it was really good.

El 6 de Febrero fui a La Moneda a ver la Vuelta de Chile. Había muchas personas en el fin y fue muy divertido a ver/estar una competencia de ciclisma otra vez. Hubo un equipo desde los EEUU y muchos de Chile, algunos de otro lugares como Italia, Cuba, Argentina. El presidente estuvo allá para el fin de la competencia! Y casi, cuando caminó por la cerca, casi toqué la mano...pero no. Lo mismo, era muy emocionante a ver a él tan cerca. Un día bueno.
February 6th, I went to the Moneda (White House of Chile) to see the Vuelta de Chile. There were a lot of persons in the end and it was fun to see/to be at a cycling race again. There was a team from the US and lots from Chile, some of the other countries like Italy, Cuba, and Argentina. The president (of Chile) was there for the end of the race! And almost, when he walked by the fence, almos touched his hand...but no. All the same, it was very excting to see him so close. A good day.






Hubo lluvia!! Por un día =D Tambien, relampagos, truenos, y un temblor. Estaba muy emocionante que hubo truenos porque me recordé de pennsylvania y eso pasa mucho en el verano. Jugamos volibol en la lluvia.
There was rain!! For one day =D In addition, lightning, thunder, and a tremor. It was exciting to have thunder because it reminded me of summer in PA. We played volleyball in the rain.

En el medio del mes, tuve la opurtunidad a conocer Santiago con mi profe de biología. Muchas gracias a ella por una experiencía superbuena =D Tuve un gran tiempo y ahora conozco mucho de Santiago. Fuimos a la Moneda, tumba de Bernardo O'Higgins, Plaza del Armas, Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombiano, Edificio Ex Congresional, Museo Histórico Nacional, la Catedral, y Cerro Santa Lucia todo en un día! Caminando tambien. Tuvimos problemas caminando y casi nos caimos muchas veces porque de las hormigas cabezonas jajajaja Y las fuentes de agua en la noche. El próximo día, subimos el cerro San Cristobal, al lugar más alta de Santiago. Muy grande el viaje, pero vale la pena jaja
In the middle of the moth, I had the oppurtunity to get to know Santiago with my biology teacher. Many thanks to her for an awesome experience =D I had a great time and now know a lot more of Santiago. We went to la Moneda, Bernardo O'higgins' tomb, Plaza del Armas, Chilean Museum of Precolonial Art, the Ex Congressional Building, CHilean National Historical Museum, the Cathedral, and Santa Lucia Hill all in one day! Walking too. We had problems walking and almost fell a bunch of times because of the ants with big heads (chilean saying for the bumps in the sidewalk where it is uneven) hahahaha And the water show at night. THe next day, we climbed Cerro San Cristobal, to the highest place in Santiago. A big/long trip, but worth the pain haha








Este fin de semana, fui a Pichilena. Creo que es mi lugar favorito de Chile porque es tan tranquila, puedo disfrutar y relejar en la playa con las olas, y estamos allá con familia (abuelos, tios, etc). Divertido y tranquilo. =D Regresamos anoche.
This weekend, I went to Pichilena. I believe that it is my favorite place in Chile because it is so chill. I can enjoy and relax on the beach with the waves, and we are there with family (grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc). Fun and chill. =D We returned last night.

The Midpoint

Salimos para el aeropuerto el 13 de enero. Después de despidiendo la Mónica, juntamos, por suerte, con un compañero de la Maka cuando ella vivó en Iquique. Él es de Inglaterra y por algunos momentos, practicamos nuestro inglés. Un tío nos recibió en Iquique, después del vuelo de no más de 2 horas. Llegamos a la casa dónde el Alberto, mi padre chileno, estaba esperando. Entramos la casa y vimos que estaba con mucho desorganizado. Pero un momento luego, supimos por qué. La casa, ese día, había robada!! Qué loco! Todos los televisores, computadores, y un X-box, no estaban! Los guardias vinieron y también la policía. Al menos, ahora, no hay nada a robar, y por eso, nos quedamos allá. Estaba muy feliz porque la casa tenía algunas cosas pequeñas para ejercicios como en el gimnasio.
We left for the airport the 13th of January. After saying goodbye to Monica, we met up, by luck, with an old classmate of Maka’s from when she lived in Iquique. He is from England and for some moments, we practiced our English. A family friend received us in Iquique, after the flight of no more tan 2 hours. We arrived to the house where Alberto, my Chilean dad, was waiting. We entered the house and saw that it was super disorganized. But a moment later, we knew why. The house, that day, had been robbed!! Crazy!! All the tvs, computers, and an X-box were missing! Security and police came. At least, now, there was nothing to rob, and for that, we stayed there. I was quite happy because the house had a mini gym.

Iquique:


La mayor parte de los días, salí a correr para 30 minutos, con una vista de la playa. No estuvimos muy cerca para bajar pero pudimos ver. Un día salí a correr, pero tenía que ir al baño, y pensé que estuve más cerca de la MiniMark, un supermercado, que la casa. Estuve equivocada. haha Ese día, corrí por más de una hora, ida y vuelta. Pero divertido =] Ahora, sé mejor jaja.
Most days, I left to run for 30 minutes, with a view of the beach. We weren’t very close to go down to the beach, but we could see it. One day I left to run, but I had to go to the bathroom, and I though that I was closer to MiniMark, a supermarket, than the house. I was mistaken. Haha That day, I ran for more than one hour, there and back. But it was fun =] Now, I know better haha.

Comimos sushi dos veces, cerca de la playa, y me gusta sushi mucho. Ádemas, comí una comida nuevo para mí que se llama loco. Son redondos y la carne parece como langosta en que es dura.
Domingo, fui a la catedral de Iquique para misa a las 11:00. Fue diferente pero bueno y es un monumento histórico. Después, caminé por la playa y saqué fotos.
We ate sushi two times, close to the beach, and I like sushi a lot. Also, I ate a new food for me called loco. They are round and the meat seems like lobster in that it is a little tougher.
Sunday, I went to the cathedral of Iquique for mass at 11:00. It was different but good and is a historical monument. After, I walked by the beach and took photos.







La playa en Iquique está llena de personas y medusas. Parece que muchos de las medusas son muertes porque no molestan (la mayor parte) las personas en el agua. Pero, lo mismo, qué miedo! No hay tiburones cerca de la playa. Iquique tiene lo mismo tiempo todo el año con temperaturas cerca de 25 centígrados. También está en el desierto que se llama, La Atacama. La Atacama es el desierto más seco del mundo! Siempre yo estaba olvidando que no hay cambios de estaciones y entonces todos las restaurantes y casas son con diseños para eso.

The beach in Iquique is full of people and jellyfish. It seemed like most of the jellyfish are dead since they didn’t (mostly) bother people in the water. But, all the same, how scary! There aren’t sharks near the beach. Iquique has the same weather all year with temperatures in the low 80s Fahrenheit. Also, it is in the desert called The Atacama Desert. The Atacama is the driest desert in the world! I always was forgetting there isn’t a change in seasons and then all the restaurants and houses are designed a certain way for that reason.

El 22 de enero, fuimos a Humberstone, un lugar dónde entre el medio de siglo XIX y XX, vivían personas que trabajaron en una mina de salitre. Vivían allá hasta los alemanas inventaron una versión sintética del producto. Es muy interesante y tiene muchas cosas originales de la época desde cubiertos, una piscina, botellas y mucho más. Me sentí como estuve en el “Old West”. Después, fuimos a un santuario religioso dónde un hombre estaba enfermo y promesa el Señor si ayudó a él a ser mejor; él va a construir algo para él. Y mejoró. Siguiente, fuimos a Pica dónde ellos vivían por dos o tres años y hay baños de vapor que son famosos. Durante el paseo en el auto, pudimos ver muchos pequeñitos tornados…qué loco. Son tan pequeños que no hacen nada pero, igual, loco!
February 22, we went to Humberstone, a place where between the mid 19th and 20th century, lived people that worked in a nitrate mine. They lived there until the Germans invented a synthetic version. It is very interesting and has many original artifacts of the age from silverware, a pool, bottles, and much more. I felt like I was in the “Old West”. After, we went to a religious sanctuary where a man was sick and promised the Lord if he helped him to get better; he would build something for him. And he got better and fulfilled his promise. Following that, we went to Pica where the family lived for 2 or 3 years and there are natural steam baths that are famous. During the drive, we could see many small twisters…how crazy! They are so small that they don’t do anything but, the same, crazy!






El 27 de enero, salimos la casa muy temprano para ir al centro de buses y tomar un bus a Calama. El tiempo de viaje fue 6 horas en un bus que se llama semicama. Tuvimos que parar para los aduanas que hacen seguros que no estamos trayendo cosa desde Iquique que no podemos. En Iquique, muchas cosas son vendido sin puestos y por eso, tienen que las cuidar que está saliendo de la ciudad. Todo pasó bien. Llegamos a Calama y estuvimos en el mal hasta Alberto podría venir a buscar para nosotros para ir a San Pedro.
January 27th, we left the house really early to go to the bus station and take a bus to Calama. The total trip time was 6 hours and it was on a bus called a “semicama” or half bed. We had to stop for customs that make sure that we aren’t bringing items from Iquique that we can’t. In Iquique, many things are sold without taxes and for that, they have to be careful what is leaving the city. All passed well. We arrived in Calama where we waited in the mall for Alberto to pick us up to go to San Pedro.

Durante el paseo a San Pedro, había un arbolito que tenía un señal que decía dame agua. Estaba allá por mucho tiempo y paramos a dar agua. Pasamos por la Cordillera de Sal y llegamos a San Pedro dónde comimos la cena y encontramos el hotel. San Pedro es una ciudad para las turísticas y todos cierran a las 1 de la mañana. Entonces, personas pueden descansar sin problemas de ruido. El día siguiente, fuimos al museo de artefactos desde los indignos y también pasamos por la casa de Pedro Valdivia. Después de almuerzo, fuimos a la valle de la luna que es muy similar de los “Bad Lands” en EEUU pero La Valle de La Luna es todo un color. Muy lindo. Caminamos en un cueva donde usamos un celular para luz porque no trajimos una farol. También vimos la puesta del sol. El próximo día, vimos un pueblo debajo de la tierra que tiene más de 2.800 años! Volvimos a Iquique y salimos en la noche para venir a Santiago. Llegamos, el domingo, a las 3 de la mañana. Qué tarde, pues temprano jaja.
During the trip to San Pedro, there was a little tree that had a sign that said give me water. It has been there for a long time and we stopped to give it water. We passed by the Mountains of Salt and arrived in San Pedro where we ate supper and found the hotel. San Pedro is a city for the tourists and everything closes at 1 in the morning. Then, people can rest without problems from noise. The following day, we went to a museum of artifacts from the indigenous tribes and we also passed by the house of Pedro Valdivia. After lunch, we went to the Valley of the Moon that is similar to the Bad Lands in the US but the Valley of the Moon was all one color. Very pretty. We walked in a cave where we used a cell for light because we didn’t bring a lantern. We also watched the sunset. The next day, we saw a community underneath the earth that had more than 2.800 years! We returned to Iquique and left that night to come to Santiago. We arrived, Sunday, at 3 in the morning. How late, well, early haha.







Domingo, hubo una misa en honor de Rotary en Maipu. Y después, comimos almuerzo. Tomé el micro y fue una experiencia buena. Hablé con mis consejeros y regresé a la casa en la tarde. Por los dos días pasados, los abuelos, del lado de la mama, estuvieron acá. Quiero a ellos mucho porque son tan cariñosos. Es una lata que tienen que regresar a su casa.
Sunday, there was a mass in honor of Rotary in Maipu (city pronounced like My Poo hahaha). And after, we ate lunch. I took the micro aka bus system and it was a good experience. I spoke with my counselors and returned to the house in the afternoon. For the past two days, the grandparents, on the mom’s side, were here. I love them a lot because they are so caring and lovely. It is a shame that they have to return to their house.

Sin embargo, el mes de enero, vino al fin y llegué a la mitad de mi intercambio. Qué más a decir pero AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH jaja. 5 ½ meses pasados y 5 ½ meses a venir. Me extraño mis amigos y familia de los EEUU muchísimo pero también quiero mis amigos, familia y vida acá. Estoy disfrutando mi tiempo pero también no puedo esperar a ver todo en Julio! Si hay algo que aprendí acá es para ser mí mismo y nada menos. Y eso es importante. Encontré amigos y estoy cómodo con ellos porque puedo ser mí mismo con ellos =D.

And thus, the month of January, came to an end and I arrived at the middle of my exchange year. What more to say but AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH haha. 5 ½ months down and 5 ½ months to come. I miss my family and friends from the US so much but also I love my friends, family, and life here. I am enjoying my time but also I can wait to see everyone in July! If there is something that I have learned here is to be myself and nothing less. And that is important. I found friends and I am comfortable with them because I can be myself with them =D

Salí para Quirehue muy temprano el 4 de enero con 3 otras compañeras de mi curso en bus. Juntamos con *33* otra personas para el paseo de 4-5 horas. Un chico fue contando cuantos personas y él dijo, "32, faltamos un minero." "Te contaste?" "Oh! 33 mineros, todos estamos acá" jaja

I left fo Quirehue quite early January 4th with 3 other girls from my class by bus. We gathered with *33* other people for the 4-5 hour trip. On boy was counting people and he said, "32, we are short one miner." "Did you count yourself?" "Oh! 33 miners, we are all here" haha

Despues de llegando en Quirehue, comimos almuerzo y tuvimos una misa. Empezó a llover muy fuerte pero pasó despues de 20 minutos aproximadamente. Seperamos en nuestros grupos y partamos. Mi grupo tuvo dos profes (una mujer y un hombre), 3 chicos, y 6 chicas (incluyendo yo). Despues de limpiando los pisos y la cocina, nos acostamos.

After arriving in Quirehue, we ate lunch and had mass. It started to rain cats and dogs but it passed after about 20 minutes. We seperated into our groups (there were 4) and parted ways. My group consisted of 2 professors (a woman and a man), 3 boys, and 6 girls (including me). After cleaning the floors and the kitchen, we went to bed.






Cada día, nos levantamos, pues algunos =P, a las 8 y comimos y cosas como eso antes de saliendo a las 10. Tambien, cada día y noche hicimos oración y reflección. Los primeros dos días, todo estuvo misionando. Estaba muy diferente que en los EEUU. Todos las casas tienen cercas, no puedes tocar la puerta. Entonces, llamamos "Alo!" Esta populación fue con 5 iglesias evangelicas, muchos! Dijimos que somos de Quirehue y vamos a tener actividades con la comunidad a las 7. Vengan a hablar y juntar con los vecinos. Aunque, muchos iban evanjelicas, conocimos otras personas muy amables y pasamos a tomar té o jugo y hablar.

Each day, we got up, well some =P, at 8 and ate breakfast, among other things, before leaving at 10. Also, each day and night, we did a prayer and reflection. The first two days, everyone was missioning. It was very different than in the US. All the houses had fences, and you couldn't knock on the door. Then, we called "Alo!" (hello) This population was with 5 evangelic churches, a lot! We said that we are from Quirehue and are going to have activities with the community at 7. Come and talk and get to gether with the neighbors. Although many were Evangelics, we got to know other very nive people and passed through to drink tea or juice and talk.



La segunda noche, despues de la cena, pues fue más como once, fuimos a jugar fútbol con los chicos de la comunidad. El nombre de nuestro equipo, Hannah's boys jaja Perdimos 1-5 pero fuera de eso, pienso que ayudó la comunidad a aceptar a nosotros. Y despues de eso, teníamos muchos más niños para el grupo de jovenes.

No solamente misionamos, pero tambien ayudamos con la construction de una capilla. Sacamos 300 tablas de madera de una camion. Modemos una colina pequeño de arrena/tierra para arreglar el espacio y construir una pared.

The second night, after supper, well it was more like once (snack time), we went to play soccer with the boys of the community. The name of our team, Hannah's boys haha.We lost 1-5 but outside of that, I think it helped the community to accept us. And after that, we had a lot more kids for the younger group.

Not only were we missioning, but also we helped with the construction of a capilla. We removed 300 planks of wood from a truck. We moved a small hill of sand/dirt to fix up the space and make a wall.






Durante la semana, conocimos una tía muy amable. Siempre estaba dando a nosotro cerüellas y mermalada (que fue deliciosa). Una noche todo el grupo fue a comer papas fritas (20kg!!) que tres amigos y yo peleamos en la tarde despues de un almuerzo de todas las ensaladas que puedes imaginar. Pude ver la Milkyway y tambien la cruza del sur. Vimos estrellas de fuegaz. Mirando a las estrellas es increíble que son tan lejo y estás viendo la luz de días, meses, y años a trás.

During the week, we met a very lovely lady. She was always giving us plums and mermalade (that was delicious). One night, the whol group went to eat french fries (20kg!!) that three friends and I pealed in the afternoon after a lunch of all the salads you can imagine. In the nights, I could see the Milkyway and also the Southern Cross. We saw shooting stars. Looking at the stars is incredible, so far away, and you are looking at the light days, months, and years old.

Un día, separamos en dos grupos y un se fue a trabajar a las 8. El otro, dormió hasta 8 para salir un poquito más luego y ir missionando. Pero nos levantamos tarde! Se despertí una de las profes y dije, "It's 9 am, we should probably get up." (Son las nueve de la mañana, nos debemos levantar.) Pero en ingles! jaja No entiendío. Y dé cuento y repití en español jaja. Tuve sueño.

One day, we separated into 2 groups and one went to work at 8. The other, slept until 8 to leave a litle bit later and go missioning. But we got up late! I woke up one of the profesors and said, "It's 9 am, we should probably get up." In English! haha She didn't understand. I realized and repeated in spanish haha. I was tired.

Hubo dos temblores que me fue despertado para. Fueron fuertes pero no tan largos.

Teníamos un tiempo muy bueno. Conocí personas increíbles y es una experiencia preciosa.

Juntamos con los otros grupos el 11 de enero en Quirehue para contar información sobre la comunidad y la experiencia. Salimos con 33 personas otro vez (numero magico? jaja)

There were 2 earth trembles that I was awake for. They were strong but not that long.

We had a great time. I met amazing people and it is a precious experience.

We gathered with the other groups on January 11th in Quirehue to give a report about the community and the experience. We left with 33 people again. (magic number? haha)




El 13 de enero, la Maka, el Albertito, una amiga, y yo salimos para Iquique en la noche. Ahora, estamos acá con playa y una temperatura muy agradable. Más de Iquique luego.

January 13th, Maka, Albertito, a friend, and I left for Iquique in the night. Now we are here with beach and a very agreeable climate. More on Iquique later.

So if there is one thing (of many) but a prominant good idea is to not leave 3 weeks until you write a blog...Procrastination!! haha

El verano ha sido muy tranquila. Tengo tenís en la mañana ahora que no tengo escula. Algunos veces corro en los días que no tengo tenís. Hablando de corriendo, la nana de mi casa, sacó tercer lugar en una grande competencia de Brooks en Santiago. Felicidades!!! Ella es superrápido!

El 16 de Diciembre fueron los actos finales del colegio. Es una presentación de reconocimientos para estudiantes en deportes, escuela, y espititu.

The summer has been very chill. I have tennis in the morning now that I don't have school. Some times I run on the day that I don;t have tennis. Speaking of running, the nana of my house, took 3rd place in a huge Brooks sponsered running competition in Santiago. Congratulations!!! She is super fast!

December 16th were the Final Acts of the school. It is a presentation of regonition for students in sports, school and spiritually.

El 18 de Diciembre la Maka, el Carlos, el Albertito, y yo fuimos a San Fernando a visitar a los abuelos. hablamos mucho y comimos almuerzo. Hablé con el tío y él trabaja con químicas. Va a ir al Congreso Latinoamericano de Químicas. Fue en Lima Peru esto año. Qué interesante! Tambien fuimos a colectar cerezas desde los arboles. En el routo allá, vimos el lugar donde Carlos nació y el lugar (Nestle) donde su papa, el abuelo, trabajó. Es interesante como todos las personas tienen una historia. Eso es la razón que documentales y historias primeras son tan importante. Sacamos mucho cerezas y son muy deliciosas.

December 18th Maka, Carlos, Albertito, and I went to San Fernando to visit the grandparents. We talked a lot and ate luch. I spoke with the uncle and he works with chemicals. He is going to go to the Latin American Congress on Chemicals. It was in Lima Peru this year. How interesting! Also, we went to collect cherries from the trees. On the route there, we saw the place where Carlos was born and the place (Nestle) where his dad, the grandfather, worked. It is interesting how everybody has a history. That is the reason that documentaries and primary sources are so important. We picked lots of cherries and they are very delicious.








Mi hermano y yo jugamos el juego de cartas, Uno. Pero lo cambiamos a Uno Chileno Extremo. Jugamos con 33 cartas y espejos. Ademas, cada persona puede poner el +(x) cartas en la pila y cuando alguien no tiene, toma el total de todo. Muy divertido!

Vi la eclipse de la luna! Fue roja y muy linda.

My brother and I play the card game, Uno. But we changed it to Extreme Chilean Uno. We play with 33 cards and mirrors. Additionaly, we play stacks where the total number of cards you pick up can be increased if the next player has a +(x) number of cards card. Very fun.

I saw the lunar eclipse! It was red and muy linda.

En el principio de la semana de Deciembre 20, yo no sentí bien, pero fue porque yo estaba deshidratada. Yo tomé mucho más bebida como agua y jugo, y me sentí mucho mejor. La clima es muy seca, hace calor, y comimos mucha comida con sal y con ejercicios... Eso es un problema si no das de cuenta.

In the begining of the week of December 20th, I didn't feel well, but it was because I was dehydrated. I drank a lot more water and juice and I felt much better. THe climate is very dry, hot, and we eat food with a lot of salt + excersize... that is a problem if you don't realize it.

Empezó a ver "Quien quiere ser un millonario?" y ellos juegan un poquito differente. Primer hay un otro recurso, un cambio de pregunta. Pero lo más grande es que ellos juegan por alguien que necesita el dinero. Algunos veces es alguien invalido o una organización. Entonces, es una persona famosa que juega con alguien representivo (la persona o representivo de la organización que necesita la plata) juengan juntos. Como el programa Teleton, es para una buena causa.

I started to watch "WHo wants to be a millionare?" (the spanish version) and they play a little bit different. First, there is another life line, a change of question. But the most grand is that they play for someone who needs money. Sometimes the person has a handicap or it is for an organization. THen , it is a famous person that plays with some representative (the person or representative of the organization tha tneeds the money) they play together. Like the program Teleton, it is for a good cause.

El 22 de Deciembre, terminé mi libro que cuento los sucesos en. Ahora, estoy en mi segundo libro =]

Cargué muchas canciones en español y estoy emocionante a eschucharlas!

El 23 de Deciembre, la Maka, el Alberto, y yo fuimos al mol y vimos Narnia 3. La pelicula es muy buena!. Terminamos comprando cualquier cosa que necesitamos para Navidad y regresamos a la casa. En el cine, cuando compramos las palomitas, estuve buscando para mantaquilla. Pero me olvidé que palomitas acá son hecho con caramel.

December 22nd, I finished my book that I tell my events in...like a journal. Now, I am in my second book! =]

I got a lot spanish songs in my itunes library and I am excited to listen to them all!

December 23rd, the Maka, ALberto and I went to the mall and saw Narnia 3. The movie is really good! We finished buying which ever things we needed for Chirstmas and returned to the house. In the movie theatre, when we bought popcorn, I was looking for butter. But I forgot that popcorn here is made with caramel and not butter.

Para Navidad, había un arbol artificial y pequeño. Comimos muy tarde, como a las once, y abrimos los regalos a las 2 de la mañana. Reciví chalas muy lindas, ropa, y una bolsa para la playa.

For Christmas, there was an artifictial, small tree. We ate really late, like at 11, and we opened gifts at 2 in hte morning. I recived sandals lindas, clothing, and a beach bag.




Cuando estuvimos comiendo, la Maka respondió con "claro pue"y todo rieron. Tomó yo un poquito del tiempo para entender pero entonces me recordé de cuando yo estuve hablando con la Cecilia, quien es de Peru. Allá ellos dicen "ya pue" o "claro pue" donde acá dicen "ya po" o "claro po".

When we were eating, Maka responded with "claro pue" and everyone laughed. It took me a little time to understand but then I remembered when I was talking with Celilia, who is from Peru. There they say "ya pue" o "claro pue" where they say here "ya po" o "claro po". It's kinda like if someone where to say a word or speak in an accent from a different region, for example sometimes when I say "y'all" haha

El martes, fui a un reúnion de Rotary para celebrar Navidad. Había mucha gente. Conocí una pareja muy especial. Son casados por más de 60 años. El señor era en el Comité Olímpico Nacional para los Olímpicos de Atlanta y Barcelona y parte de Rotary en Chile desde despues de 2 meses del principio. Increíble! Salimos un poquito temprano para buscar para la Maka y su amiga y antes de saliendo, dijemos adios a cada persona. Hubo más de 30 personas! Todo con un beso. Pero hay nada más cómodo o agradable cuando todo refieron a mi con hijita. =]

On tuesday, I went to a Rotary meeting to celebrate Christmas. THere were a lot of peole. I met a very special couple. There are married for more than 60 years. The husband was on the Chilean Olympic National Commitee for the Olympics in Atlanta and Barcelona and part of Chilean Rotary since 2 months after is started (in Chile). Incredible! We left a little early to pick up the Maka and her friend and before leaving we said goodbye to each person. There was more than 30 people! Everyone with a kiss. But there is nothing more comforting and nice than when people say "bye my hijita" (daughter, little girl). =]




Felicidades a Amy, una amiga de escuela. Ella va a ir a Ecuador el próximo año con Rotary! Qué emocionante!

Congrats to Amy, my friend from school. She is going to go to Ecuador next year with Rotary! How exciting!

El 31 de Deciembre, salí temprano con la Maka y el Carlos para enscribir la Maka en la Universidad de los Andes. La universidad es muy linda. Ella va a estudiar psicología. Conocimos una mujer y cuando la Maka dijo que estoy una estudiante del intercambio, la mujer dije, oh para estudios postgrados jajajaja aparentamente puedo pasar por más de 23 o 24 años jaja

December 31, I left early with the Maka an dCarlos to enroll Maka in the University of Los Andes. The university is muy linda (and looks like a normal university haha). She is going to study psycology. We met a woman and when Maka said that I am an exchange student, the woman said, oh for postgraduate studies hahaha aparently I can pass for more than 23 or 24 years haha

Junté con una intercambista en el Parque Arauco y vimos Enredado. Muy buena pelicula tambien. Comimos en TGIFridays como gringas y volvemos a nuestros casas por micro y metro.

I met with another exchange student at Parque Arauco and we saw Tangles. Very good movie as well. We ate in TGIFridays like gringas, and returned to our house by micro (bus system) and the metro.

Familia vino para celebrar el año nuevo y contamos los ultimos segundos con el radio. Despues bailamos. Qué divertido. =]

Pues, este mes voy a estar en Santiago/mi casa por un total de 5 días. Voy a ir para misiones en Quirehue con mi escuela y las otras escuelas Diaconos el 4 hasta el 11. Y el 13 la familia y yo salimos a ir a Iquique en el norte de Chile hasta el 30 de enero.

Family came to celebrate the new year and we counted the last seconds with the radio. After, we danced. Fun! =]

Well, this month I am going to be in Santiago/my house for a total of 5 days. I will be going to QUirehue with my school for missions work from the 4th to the 11th. And the 13th till the 30th, the family and I leave to go to Iquique in the noth of Chile until the 30th of January.
