Quirehue =D

Salí para Quirehue muy temprano el 4 de enero con 3 otras compañeras de mi curso en bus. Juntamos con *33* otra personas para el paseo de 4-5 horas. Un chico fue contando cuantos personas y él dijo, "32, faltamos un minero." "Te contaste?" "Oh! 33 mineros, todos estamos acá" jaja
I left fo Quirehue quite early January 4th with 3 other girls from my class by bus. We gathered with *33* other people for the 4-5 hour trip. On boy was counting people and he said, "32, we are short one miner." "Did you count yourself?" "Oh! 33 miners, we are all here" haha
Despues de llegando en Quirehue, comimos almuerzo y tuvimos una misa. Empezó a llover muy fuerte pero pasó despues de 20 minutos aproximadamente. Seperamos en nuestros grupos y partamos. Mi grupo tuvo dos profes (una mujer y un hombre), 3 chicos, y 6 chicas (incluyendo yo). Despues de limpiando los pisos y la cocina, nos acostamos.
After arriving in Quirehue, we ate lunch and had mass. It started to rain cats and dogs but it passed after about 20 minutes. We seperated into our groups (there were 4) and parted ways. My group consisted of 2 professors (a woman and a man), 3 boys, and 6 girls (including me). After cleaning the floors and the kitchen, we went to bed.
Cada día, nos levantamos, pues algunos =P, a las 8 y comimos y cosas como eso antes de saliendo a las 10. Tambien, cada día y noche hicimos oración y reflección. Los primeros dos días, todo estuvo misionando. Estaba muy diferente que en los EEUU. Todos las casas tienen cercas, no puedes tocar la puerta. Entonces, llamamos "Alo!" Esta populación fue con 5 iglesias evangelicas, muchos! Dijimos que somos de Quirehue y vamos a tener actividades con la comunidad a las 7. Vengan a hablar y juntar con los vecinos. Aunque, muchos iban evanjelicas, conocimos otras personas muy amables y pasamos a tomar té o jugo y hablar.
Each day, we got up, well some =P, at 8 and ate breakfast, among other things, before leaving at 10. Also, each day and night, we did a prayer and reflection. The first two days, everyone was missioning. It was very different than in the US. All the houses had fences, and you couldn't knock on the door. Then, we called "Alo!" (hello) This population was with 5 evangelic churches, a lot! We said that we are from Quirehue and are going to have activities with the community at 7. Come and talk and get to gether with the neighbors. Although many were Evangelics, we got to know other very nive people and passed through to drink tea or juice and talk.
La segunda noche, despues de la cena, pues fue más como once, fuimos a jugar fútbol con los chicos de la comunidad. El nombre de nuestro equipo, Hannah's boys jaja Perdimos 1-5 pero fuera de eso, pienso que ayudó la comunidad a aceptar a nosotros. Y despues de eso, teníamos muchos más niños para el grupo de jovenes.
No solamente misionamos, pero tambien ayudamos con la construction de una capilla. Sacamos 300 tablas de madera de una camion. Modemos una colina pequeño de arrena/tierra para arreglar el espacio y construir una pared.
The second night, after supper, well it was more like once (snack time), we went to play soccer with the boys of the community. The name of our team, Hannah's boys haha.We lost 1-5 but outside of that, I think it helped the community to accept us. And after that, we had a lot more kids for the younger group.
Not only were we missioning, but also we helped with the construction of a capilla. We removed 300 planks of wood from a truck. We moved a small hill of sand/dirt to fix up the space and make a wall.
Durante la semana, conocimos una tía muy amable. Siempre estaba dando a nosotro cerüellas y mermalada (que fue deliciosa). Una noche todo el grupo fue a comer papas fritas (20kg!!) que tres amigos y yo peleamos en la tarde despues de un almuerzo de todas las ensaladas que puedes imaginar. Pude ver la Milkyway y tambien la cruza del sur. Vimos estrellas de fuegaz. Mirando a las estrellas es increíble que son tan lejo y estás viendo la luz de días, meses, y años a trás.
During the week, we met a very lovely lady. She was always giving us plums and mermalade (that was delicious). One night, the whol group went to eat french fries (20kg!!) that three friends and I pealed in the afternoon after a lunch of all the salads you can imagine. In the nights, I could see the Milkyway and also the Southern Cross. We saw shooting stars. Looking at the stars is incredible, so far away, and you are looking at the light days, months, and years old.
Un día, separamos en dos grupos y un se fue a trabajar a las 8. El otro, dormió hasta 8 para salir un poquito más luego y ir missionando. Pero nos levantamos tarde! Se despertí una de las profes y dije, "It's 9 am, we should probably get up." (Son las nueve de la mañana, nos debemos levantar.) Pero en ingles! jaja No entiendío. Y dé cuento y repití en español jaja. Tuve sueño.
One day, we separated into 2 groups and one went to work at 8. The other, slept until 8 to leave a litle bit later and go missioning. But we got up late! I woke up one of the profesors and said, "It's 9 am, we should probably get up." In English! haha She didn't understand. I realized and repeated in spanish haha. I was tired.
Hubo dos temblores que me fue despertado para. Fueron fuertes pero no tan largos.
Teníamos un tiempo muy bueno. Conocí personas increíbles y es una experiencia preciosa.
Juntamos con los otros grupos el 11 de enero en Quirehue para contar información sobre la comunidad y la experiencia. Salimos con 33 personas otro vez (numero magico? jaja)
There were 2 earth trembles that I was awake for. They were strong but not that long.
We had a great time. I met amazing people and it is a precious experience.

Catch Up
So if there is one thing (of many) but a prominant good idea is to not leave 3 weeks until you write a blog...Procrastination!! haha
El verano ha sido muy tranquila. Tengo tenís en la mañana ahora que no tengo escula. Algunos veces corro en los días que no tengo tenís. Hablando de corriendo, la nana de mi casa, sacó tercer lugar en una grande competencia de Brooks en Santiago. Felicidades!!! Ella es superrápido!
El 16 de Diciembre fueron los actos finales del colegio. Es una presentación de reconocimientos para estudiantes en deportes, escuela, y espititu.
The summer has been very chill. I have tennis in the morning now that I don't have school. Some times I run on the day that I don;t have tennis. Speaking of running, the nana of my house, took 3rd place in a huge Brooks sponsered running competition in Santiago. Congratulations!!! She is super fast!
December 16th were the Final Acts of the school. It is a presentation of regonition for students in sports, school and spiritually.
El 18 de Diciembre la Maka, el Carlos, el Albertito, y yo fuimos a San Fernando a visitar a los abuelos. hablamos mucho y comimos almuerzo. Hablé con el tío y él trabaja con químicas. Va a ir al Congreso Latinoamericano de Químicas. Fue en Lima Peru esto año. Qué interesante! Tambien fuimos a colectar cerezas desde los arboles. En el routo allá, vimos el lugar donde Carlos nació y el lugar (Nestle) donde su papa, el abuelo, trabajó. Es interesante como todos las personas tienen una historia. Eso es la razón que documentales y historias primeras son tan importante. Sacamos mucho cerezas y son muy deliciosas.
December 18th Maka, Carlos, Albertito, and I went to San Fernando to visit the grandparents. We talked a lot and ate luch. I spoke with the uncle and he works with chemicals. He is going to go to the Latin American Congress on Chemicals. It was in Lima Peru this year. How interesting! Also, we went to collect cherries from the trees. On the route there, we saw the place where Carlos was born and the place (Nestle) where his dad, the grandfather, worked. It is interesting how everybody has a history. That is the reason that documentaries and primary sources are so important. We picked lots of cherries and they are very delicious.
Mi hermano y yo jugamos el juego de cartas, Uno. Pero lo cambiamos a Uno Chileno Extremo. Jugamos con 33 cartas y espejos. Ademas, cada persona puede poner el +(x) cartas en la pila y cuando alguien no tiene, toma el total de todo. Muy divertido!
Vi la eclipse de la luna! Fue roja y muy linda.
My brother and I play the card game, Uno. But we changed it to Extreme Chilean Uno. We play with 33 cards and mirrors. Additionaly, we play stacks where the total number of cards you pick up can be increased if the next player has a +(x) number of cards card. Very fun.
I saw the lunar eclipse! It was red and muy linda.
En el principio de la semana de Deciembre 20, yo no sentí bien, pero fue porque yo estaba deshidratada. Yo tomé mucho más bebida como agua y jugo, y me sentí mucho mejor. La clima es muy seca, hace calor, y comimos mucha comida con sal y con ejercicios... Eso es un problema si no das de cuenta.
In the begining of the week of December 20th, I didn't feel well, but it was because I was dehydrated. I drank a lot more water and juice and I felt much better. THe climate is very dry, hot, and we eat food with a lot of salt + excersize... that is a problem if you don't realize it.
Empezó a ver "Quien quiere ser un millonario?" y ellos juegan un poquito differente. Primer hay un otro recurso, un cambio de pregunta. Pero lo más grande es que ellos juegan por alguien que necesita el dinero. Algunos veces es alguien invalido o una organización. Entonces, es una persona famosa que juega con alguien representivo (la persona o representivo de la organización que necesita la plata) juengan juntos. Como el programa Teleton, es para una buena causa.
I started to watch "WHo wants to be a millionare?" (the spanish version) and they play a little bit different. First, there is another life line, a change of question. But the most grand is that they play for someone who needs money. Sometimes the person has a handicap or it is for an organization. THen , it is a famous person that plays with some representative (the person or representative of the organization tha tneeds the money) they play together. Like the program Teleton, it is for a good cause.
El 22 de Deciembre, terminé mi libro que cuento los sucesos en. Ahora, estoy en mi segundo libro =]
Cargué muchas canciones en español y estoy emocionante a eschucharlas!
El 23 de Deciembre, la Maka, el Alberto, y yo fuimos al mol y vimos Narnia 3. La pelicula es muy buena!. Terminamos comprando cualquier cosa que necesitamos para Navidad y regresamos a la casa. En el cine, cuando compramos las palomitas, estuve buscando para mantaquilla. Pero me olvidé que palomitas acá son hecho con caramel.
December 22nd, I finished my book that I tell my events in...like a journal. Now, I am in my second book! =]
I got a lot spanish songs in my itunes library and I am excited to listen to them all!
December 23rd, the Maka, ALberto and I went to the mall and saw Narnia 3. The movie is really good! We finished buying which ever things we needed for Chirstmas and returned to the house. In the movie theatre, when we bought popcorn, I was looking for butter. But I forgot that popcorn here is made with caramel and not butter.
Para Navidad, había un arbol artificial y pequeño. Comimos muy tarde, como a las once, y abrimos los regalos a las 2 de la mañana. Reciví chalas muy lindas, ropa, y una bolsa para la playa.
For Christmas, there was an artifictial, small tree. We ate really late, like at 11, and we opened gifts at 2 in hte morning. I recived sandals lindas, clothing, and a beach bag.
Cuando estuvimos comiendo, la Maka respondió con "claro pue"y todo rieron. Tomó yo un poquito del tiempo para entender pero entonces me recordé de cuando yo estuve hablando con la Cecilia, quien es de Peru. Allá ellos dicen "ya pue" o "claro pue" donde acá dicen "ya po" o "claro po".
When we were eating, Maka responded with "claro pue" and everyone laughed. It took me a little time to understand but then I remembered when I was talking with Celilia, who is from Peru. There they say "ya pue" o "claro pue" where they say here "ya po" o "claro po". It's kinda like if someone where to say a word or speak in an accent from a different region, for example sometimes when I say "y'all" haha
El martes, fui a un reúnion de Rotary para celebrar Navidad. Había mucha gente. Conocí una pareja muy especial. Son casados por más de 60 años. El señor era en el Comité Olímpico Nacional para los Olímpicos de Atlanta y Barcelona y parte de Rotary en Chile desde despues de 2 meses del principio. Increíble! Salimos un poquito temprano para buscar para la Maka y su amiga y antes de saliendo, dijemos adios a cada persona. Hubo más de 30 personas! Todo con un beso. Pero hay nada más cómodo o agradable cuando todo refieron a mi con hijita. =]
On tuesday, I went to a Rotary meeting to celebrate Christmas. THere were a lot of peole. I met a very special couple. There are married for more than 60 years. The husband was on the Chilean Olympic National Commitee for the Olympics in Atlanta and Barcelona and part of Chilean Rotary since 2 months after is started (in Chile). Incredible! We left a little early to pick up the Maka and her friend and before leaving we said goodbye to each person. There was more than 30 people! Everyone with a kiss. But there is nothing more comforting and nice than when people say "bye my hijita" (daughter, little girl). =]
Felicidades a Amy, una amiga de escuela. Ella va a ir a Ecuador el próximo año con Rotary! Qué emocionante!

El 31 de Deciembre, salí temprano con la Maka y el Carlos para enscribir la Maka en la Universidad de los Andes. La universidad es muy linda. Ella va a estudiar psicología. Conocimos una mujer y cuando la Maka dijo que estoy una estudiante del intercambio, la mujer dije, oh para estudios postgrados jajajaja aparentamente puedo pasar por más de 23 o 24 años jaja
December 31, I left early with the Maka an dCarlos to enroll Maka in the University of Los Andes. The university is muy linda (and looks like a normal university haha). She is going to study psycology. We met a woman and when Maka said that I am an exchange student, the woman said, oh for postgraduate studies hahaha aparently I can pass for more than 23 or 24 years haha
Junté con una intercambista en el Parque Arauco y vimos Enredado. Muy buena pelicula tambien. Comimos en TGIFridays como gringas y volvemos a nuestros casas por micro y metro.
I met with another exchange student at Parque Arauco and we saw Tangles. Very good movie as well. We ate in TGIFridays like gringas, and returned to our house by micro (bus system) and the metro.

Familia vino para celebrar el año nuevo y contamos los ultimos segundos con el radio. Despues bailamos. Qué divertido. =]
Pues, este mes voy a estar en Santiago/mi casa por un total de 5 días. Voy a ir para misiones en Quirehue con mi escuela y las otras escuelas Diaconos el 4 hasta el 11. Y el 13 la familia y yo salimos a ir a Iquique en el norte de Chile hasta el 30 de enero.

Family came to celebrate the new year and we counted the last seconds with the radio. After, we danced. Fun! =]
Well, this month I am going to be in Santiago/my house for a total of 5 days. I will be going to QUirehue with my school for missions work from the 4th to the 11th. And the 13th till the 30th, the family and I leave to go to Iquique in the noth of Chile until the 30th of January.

But the most grand is that they play for someone who needs money. Sometimes the person has a handicap or it is for an organization. THen , it is a famous person that plays with some representative (the person or representative of the organization tha tneeds the money) they play together. Like the program Teleton, it is for a good cause.

El 23 de Deciembre, la Maka, el Alberto, y yo fuimos al mol y vimos Narnia 3. La pelicula es muy buena!. Terminamos comprando cualquier cosa que necesitamos para Navidad y regresamos a la casa. En el cine, cuando compramos las palomitas, estuve buscando para mantaquilla. Pero me olvidé que palomitas acá son hecho con caramel.

I got a lot spanish songs in my itunes library and I am excited to listen to them all!
December 23rd, the Maka, ALberto and I went to the mall and saw Narnia 3. The movie is really good! We finished buying which ever things we needed for Chirstmas and returned to the house. In the movie theatre, when we bought popcorn, I was looking for butter. But I forgot that popcorn here is made with caramel and not butter.
Para Navidad, había un arbol artificial y pequeño. Comimos muy tarde, como a las once, y abrimos los regalos a las 2 de la mañana. Reciví chalas muy lindas, ropa, y una bolsa para la playa.
For Christmas, there was an artifictial, small tree. We ate really late, like at 11, and we opened gifts at 2 in hte morning. I recived sandals lindas, clothing, and a beach bag.
Cuando estuvimos comiendo, la Maka respondió con "claro pue"y todo rieron. Tomó yo un poquito del tiempo para entender pero entonces me recordé de cuando yo estuve hablando con la Cecilia, quien es de Peru. Allá ellos dicen "ya pue" o "claro pue" donde acá dicen "ya po" o "claro po".
When we were eating, Maka responded with "claro pue" and everyone laughed. It took me a little time to understand but then I remembered when I was talking with Celilia, who is from Peru. There they say "ya pue" o "claro pue" where they say here "ya po" o "claro po". It's kinda like if someone where to say a word or speak in an accent from a different region, for example sometimes when I say "y'all" haha
El martes, fui a un reúnion de Rotary para celebrar Navidad. Había mucha gente. Conocí una pareja muy especial. Son casados por más de 60 años. El señor era en el Comité Olímpico Nacional para los Olímpicos de Atlanta y Barcelona y parte de Rotary en Chile desde despues de 2 meses del principio. Increíble! Salimos un poquito temprano para buscar para la Maka y su amiga y antes de saliendo, dijemos adios a cada persona. Hubo más de 30 personas! Todo con un beso. Pero hay nada más cómodo o agradable cuando todo refieron a mi con hijita. =]
On tuesday, I went to a Rotary meeting to celebrate Christmas. THere were a lot of peole. I met a very special couple. There are married for more than 60 years. The husband was on the Chilean Olympic National Commitee for the Olympics in Atlanta and Barcelona and part of Chilean Rotary since 2 months after is started (in Chile). Incredible! We left a little early to pick up the Maka and her friend and before leaving we said goodbye to each person. There was more than 30 people! Everyone with a kiss. But there is nothing more comforting and nice than when people say "bye my hijita" (daughter, little girl). =]
Felicidades a Amy, una amiga de escuela. Ella va a ir a Ecuador el próximo año con Rotary! Qué emocionante!

El 31 de Deciembre, salí temprano con la Maka y el Carlos para enscribir la Maka en la Universidad de los Andes. La universidad es muy linda. Ella va a estudiar psicología. Conocimos una mujer y cuando la Maka dijo que estoy una estudiante del intercambio, la mujer dije, oh para estudios postgrados jajajaja aparentamente puedo pasar por más de 23 o 24 años jaja
December 31, I left early with the Maka an dCarlos to enroll Maka in the University of Los Andes. The university is muy linda (and looks like a normal university haha). She is going to study psycology. We met a woman and when Maka said that I am an exchange student, the woman said, oh for postgraduate studies hahaha aparently I can pass for more than 23 or 24 years haha
Junté con una intercambista en el Parque Arauco y vimos Enredado. Muy buena pelicula tambien. Comimos en TGIFridays como gringas y volvemos a nuestros casas por micro y metro.
I met with another exchange student at Parque Arauco and we saw Tangles. Very good movie as well. We ate in TGIFridays like gringas, and returned to our house by micro (bus system) and the metro.

Familia vino para celebrar el año nuevo y contamos los ultimos segundos con el radio. Despues bailamos. Qué divertido. =]
Pues, este mes voy a estar en Santiago/mi casa por un total de 5 días. Voy a ir para misiones en Quirehue con mi escuela y las otras escuelas Diaconos el 4 hasta el 11. Y el 13 la familia y yo salimos a ir a Iquique en el norte de Chile hasta el 30 de enero.

Family came to celebrate the new year and we counted the last seconds with the radio. After, we danced. Fun! =]
Well, this month I am going to be in Santiago/my house for a total of 5 days. I will be going to QUirehue with my school for missions work from the 4th to the 11th. And the 13th till the 30th, the family and I leave to go to Iquique in the noth of Chile until the 30th of January.
